Stories about today

It has been such lovely weather we all sat outside and thought about words to describe what we see, and feel. These are our superstar authors.

The sun makes me melt. The green grass is tickling my feet. The leaves are dancing in the wind. William

The whooshing air is swirling around me. The soggy wet grass is tickling me. Saria

The cloud is moving in the blue sky. The grass tickles my feet and toes. Tussocks are swishing in the wind. The clouds move after clouds. Eden

The swishing tussocks are waving everywhere. It feels like a hedgehog spiking me. I feel so ticklish when it moves and I roll over on my back. It feels tickly too It is fun outside. Kiana

The breeze is floating on my face. Grass prickles on my legs. Clouds fall on my face like candy floss.
Ania-Kanu

The grey clouds cover the little blue sky. After a while the clouds move away and I see the big blue sky again. Ryan

The fluffy clouds look like candy floss. The blue sky looks like shiny glass. The whooshing wind is flowing past. Lucas

The shaped clouds are moving around. The sun s making my eyes water. The green grass tickles my legs. Angus

The clouds are like a fluffy cat in the sky. The back of my legs feel like fire because of the sun. Prickly grass is damp. Thin leaves are floating past. Max B

Kiana's Report.

Cave Spiders

Cave spiders are scary.

Cave   spiders   live   in    caves  all   the   time. Cave spiders can see.
The y   can   be   found   near  the   caves    opening    where   there   is   some   light.
They   like    light.
They make silky webs so they can catch little insects and bugs. They can't catch fly's though because they don't go in caves.

Cave  spiders  are   clever  because they can climb up the cave walls.

Daphne Flowers

Louie kindly brought in some stunning daphne flowers. The whole pod smells amazing. We used the flowers to help us with our writing. Here are a few examples I thought you should see.

The white creamy flowers have thin light pink outlines. They smell like perfume. Green branches tangle out the brown stripes winding around them like snakes. Lola

The silky leaves are very delicate. They are beautiful if you look at them. Kiana

The white edge petals are small. The petals are falling on the table. They have four petals. They have hot pink edges. Ella

The buds are hot pink. The edges are dark pink. There is four little stamens in the middle. Kaya

The flower has light green leaves. It has uncomfortable stamens in the middle of the petals. Sebbie

The flower smells like perfume. There are dark pink around the petal. There are four petals. The petals are delicate. Midori

Calendar Making

We have been learning about time and temperature. We brainstormed some ways we could investigate time. These super duper learners decided to make a calendar station and they all made their own calendar. There was so much learning it took a few days to complete.
Things they discovered include, there are only 31 days in some months and 30 in others, each month has its own number of days on one page, how to draw a grid just the right size, how to spell the names of the months and because they all worked together they helped challenge each others neatness and thinking.
Learning that will never been forgotten!

A Collaborative Owl Project

Skye and Kiana made beautiful owls by ripping paper. Their eyes are amazing. They even have curly feathers on top. The girls put them on snowboards and Kiana worked hard to make a mountain from a box. She added paper mache it and added some 3d trees. Skye wrote a book about facts on owls. What a brilliant team effort for learning. It looks fantastic too!

Numberline monsters

We are thinking about ways we can put a number line into our heads to help us with counting on and counting back strategy. We decided to make monsters with holes in their heads to add a number line. The number line slides across  to show a number to help our thinking. What a clever idea! Angus created his own monster. Look at the detail and bright colours. Creating a great resource to help your learning - the best!!!

Water Play

A station we can choose at Pataitai Station is water play. This beautiful looking liquid is used to measure different size containers to compare. We also develop pouring, self management, and co-operative skills. It has proven in the past to be extremely powerful in developing an understanding in liquids and volume. Lots of language is developed at this station.
