Reflections of Sir Edmund Hillary

This person is special – can you guess? He is Sir Edmund Hilary. He didn’t die climbing Mt Everest. He had a person from Nepal with him. Other people have died climbing Mt Everest.

Abby

Sir Edmund Hillary was the first person to climb Mt Everest. He is named Sir Edmund Hillary because he is special. You can’t climb Mt Everest without anything. You have to eat food, breathe and survive. Every breath is like burning fire. You must go with someone. At the top it is dangerous and cold. You have to be brave and sensible. Mt Everest is in Nepal. People live in the mountains but they do not live on Mt Everest. Sir Edmund Hillary put a flag on the top of Mt Everest to show that he was the first person to climb Mt Everest. You have to be a good climber to do that.

Mount Everest is the biggest Mountain in the world. Sir Edmund Hillary was so proud of himself when he got to the top of the mountain and they celebrated. Sir Edmund Hillary was very brave. It took a long time and the mountain was very cold.

Mount Everest is the biggest mountain in the whole wide world. Sir Edmund Hilary had the right gear on to climb the mountain. But he died when he got old.

Retelling Stories

We have been learning to retell a story. We have to remember how the story starts, what the problem is in the story, how the story ends and all the details inbetween. Its great for thinking about sequencing, comprehension and talking about text. We take turns sharing our stories with a buddy then they get to tell their buddy their story. Awesome respect and listening skills developing on both sides.

These boys have been talking about treasure from this awesome big book. Great skills in taking turns, investigating language and exploring text together.

Independent Number Learning

Abby and Rachael practise skip counting by singing and using the hundreds board to help them

Ryan investigated number sentences on a whiteboard.
Max also investigated number sentences. Great independent learning.

These super star readers are our pods Reader Buddies. Every day they get to read with and to someone to support their learning. Its a big responsibility and they enjoy their role as leaders. Kit has taught them how to support other peoples learning while they practice their reading skills so they can be great teachers themselves. These leaders are also learning many new skills for their own reading.

Team work in science

Abby and Cody chose to work together to create the most amazing science poster. It has a lot of information about the life cycle of the butterfly and its life changes. The butterfly's at the top were added later to create a 3D effect. Outstanding team work and research completely independent from any teachers.
