Isabella's Bat Research

Isabella has been practising her reading and typing skills by reading a book about bats, then recording her facts on paper THEN publishing her work on the blog. Great learning Isabella.

Retelling Stories

We have been learning to retell a story. We have to remember how the story starts, what the problem is in the story, how the story ends and all the details inbetween. Its great for thinking about sequencing, comprehension and talking about text. We take turns sharing our stories with a buddy then they get to tell their buddy their story. Awesome respect and listening skills developing on both sides.

These boys have been talking about treasure from this awesome big book. Great skills in taking turns, investigating language and exploring text together.

I can hear the ocean!

Isabella and Ayla discovered that they could hear the ocean in the shells.  They shared their discovery at our reflection time and we had a very interesting discussion on how that could be.  The children thought:

  • there might be water in there
  • it's because there is sand in there
  • it is because they are from the ocean
See if you can find out why we can hear a sound like the ocean in a shell we hold to our ear.

Words on my own

Our community read the Big Book called T-shirts. We thought it would be a fun way to practice writing new words all by ourselves. We coloured in our t-shirts and wrote as many words as we could on it. Isabella is very proud of how many words she can do independently and the colouring of her T-shirt. Well done Isabella.

Technology at its best

Ryan storytelling on the interactive whiteboard

Technology plays a vital role in Pod 2. It allows self directed learning without the assistance of a teacher. They can learn whenever they need or want to in a fun and interactive way. Although these children are working alone, many children become the experts who teach other children. Many children work together to problem solve, try new things, learn to navigate around sites and apps in a safe environment. Technology provides us with another teacher in the classroom to support our teaching and extend thinking. The potential and dimensions technology provides us is unlimited and endless.  The children are very proud of their learning that they achieve even without a teacher.

Drama in Pod 2

It's amazing what can happen when you put a costume on!
You shine William!

Hello?

A phone is a very powerful tool for developing oral language skills. Isabella has had a great conversation on the phone in our performing space as she explores drama, role play and developing her language skills for communicating.

Art or Maths???

These super duper learners cut straws to different lengths and put them together to make a tree shape on a card. They wrote a message inside to give to their Valentine.
Awesome measuring skills girls.
