Stories about today

It has been such lovely weather we all sat outside and thought about words to describe what we see, and feel. These are our superstar authors.

The sun makes me melt. The green grass is tickling my feet. The leaves are dancing in the wind. William

The whooshing air is swirling around me. The soggy wet grass is tickling me. Saria

The cloud is moving in the blue sky. The grass tickles my feet and toes. Tussocks are swishing in the wind. The clouds move after clouds. Eden

The swishing tussocks are waving everywhere. It feels like a hedgehog spiking me. I feel so ticklish when it moves and I roll over on my back. It feels tickly too It is fun outside. Kiana

The breeze is floating on my face. Grass prickles on my legs. Clouds fall on my face like candy floss.
Ania-Kanu

The grey clouds cover the little blue sky. After a while the clouds move away and I see the big blue sky again. Ryan

The fluffy clouds look like candy floss. The blue sky looks like shiny glass. The whooshing wind is flowing past. Lucas

Retelling Stories

We have been learning to retell a story. We have to remember how the story starts, what the problem is in the story, how the story ends and all the details inbetween. Its great for thinking about sequencing, comprehension and talking about text. We take turns sharing our stories with a buddy then they get to tell their buddy their story. Awesome respect and listening skills developing on both sides.

These boys have been talking about treasure from this awesome big book. Great skills in taking turns, investigating language and exploring text together.

Wanaka Primary School Song

A group of musical enthusiasts got together with Gilly to perform our school song for our pod. They were very brave sharing their new learning in front of 50 other children. Next week our ukulele band starts up as well as our pod choir. We have campfire singing with Gilly every Tuesday, singing together as a community of learners enjoying music.

Fundamental skills

A station we can choose at Pataitai Stations is developing fundamental sport skills. These clever learners are practicing bouncing the ball with one hand. Check out the amazing backdrop! These boys are trying to walk with stilts which requires a lot of balance and core strength. Great job helping each other boys.

Story telling

Story telling is a great way to organise ideas, sequence events and develop language. If you are working with someone else you are also learning how to integrate ideas, negotiate, extend and challenge new thinking. A table full of dinosaurs inspired these clever learners to develop a story back in time. Of course there was a mum and a dad, both who had very busy days flying everywhere and looking after the babies. Sebbie's story was much more about dinosaur types and the cycle of life. Fantastic learning guys!
