Working out the perimeter of shapes.
In Maths this week we have been discussing length, perimeter and area. Today we read a book about building a fence and then walked around shapes to work out the perimeter. Then we were clever and used our additive strategies to add the sides of the shapes.

Drumming African style
This was one of the most interesting music lesson I think I have ever encountered! Lots of fun, learning and cultural. It was tricky multitasking on best, rhythm, listening and coordination. Brilliant!!!

Paper Plane Challenge
An off shoot of our bird inquiry has been an interest in flying things. The boys here made some paper planes and were testing them out to see who's one would fly the greatest distance. Who won? What changes could you make to your plane so it could fly even further?
Glockenspiel band
George and Jah took themselves into the sound box to practise on the glockenspiels. Ryan was the beat in the background. George was learning Twinkle Twinkle Little Star off the chart while beside him Jah was counting to 100. Great way of using music to support your learning boys.

Learning through music
George, Jah and Ryan were working together using music to learn. George was following the numbers to play Twinkle Twinkle and then tried to problem solve how to play Jingle Bells. Alongside him Jah was using the glockenspiel to count to 100 and Ryan was providing the rhythm in the background - this was all at the same time. The boys had been working in the performance space for quite some time and waited until the sound box was empty so they could work in a quiet space. Great choices for learning.

Fundamental skills
A station we can choose at Pataitai Stations is developing fundamental sport skills. These clever learners are practicing bouncing the ball with one hand. Check out the amazing backdrop! These boys are trying to walk with stilts which requires a lot of balance and core strength. Great job helping each other boys.
