Technology challenge

Our technology challenge today was to construct a hut from newspaper. We were so excited because it looks like a castle. The tricky part was rolling the newspaper tightly so it was strong. We helped each other to make the best castle we could. We are very proud of our hut. What do you think?

Celebrating Learning

Look at these super duper achievers!
Hard work pays off in so many ways.
The best part is how good it makes you feel.
Well done!

Our writing challenge

As part of our writing programme today's challenge was to write a story that was longer than you!  Well done to everyone for working hard and having with writing.  It was great to see the change from the initial "I can't do that!"  to the realisation they could and did.  Fantastic.

Shape

Pod 2 are learning all about 2D and 3D shapes.  We are learning to sort shapes, describe them and find out how many sides and corners they have.  One way to help us to do this is to make shapes, this can be with clay, rods, straws, geoboards and rubber bands, drawing them etc.  Here are some examples of some of our independent work last week.
Monty and Myles comparing their triangles on the geoboards.
Olive and Caitlin drawing shapes in their investigation books.
Hunter and Jorja making shapes on the geoboards.
Here is Sebbie's cylinder he created using 2d shapes - great thinking!
Kahlarni and Fletcher with some of the shapes they made using rods, they made a number of hexagons using 6 rods.

We worked with Pod 4 children to create a treasure map. We had to write directions on how to reach the treasure using the positional language we have been learning. ( Under, over, beside, North, South, up, down)

Learning my way

A large part of learning in pod 2 is allowing children to own the learning and understand the learning process. Hunter is working hard to get his 's' just right. Great concentrating Hunter.

Self Directed Learning

Cody - Independent writing skills
These boys have chosen to work on their writing skills in the Quiet Space during Pataitai Station time. How clever are they. Understanding how to learn and how to achieve success is a major part of Pataitai Stations. These boys are working hard towards their own learning goals without being told to. Super duper self directed learning!
