Recycling Day at School

Well done to these children who got dressed up for Recycling Day at school.
We had fun making wedding dresses out of toilet paper and creations out of newspaper.

Brain Box

On Friday the brain box made its first entry into Pod 2.  What an amazing morning investigating electrical circuits.  After lots of trial and error it was discovered that some of the batteries were flat.  We needed to make a complete circuit first to find that out.  There were some challenges in learning that this is not an activity that you can undertake on your own with limited equipment.  We are all learning together to work as a team and follow the plans.

Our World

Vincent has been investigating our world. He copied his own world map and now wants to know how the countries got their names. What a great question Vincent.

Wanaka A and P Show

We had a blast strolling around the A&P Show.  We looked at the art, animals, cakes and rides.  The best part for most children was the bus ride down.

Architects in Action

We have some budding architects and builders in Pod 2.  As an extension to their construction work they decided to draw plans and work as a team to build their constructions.  Amazing thinking and teamwork - wow!

Can we build it? Yes we can!

There are several types of construction stations available at Pataitai Time as there is so much language and thinking going on behind the planning, design, collaboration and creation. Saria and Lola have worked together, sharing ideas, to create a brilliant model they shared with the pod. Their imaginative stories alongside their construction was amazing and I could have listened to it all day long.
Vincent has worked with some friends to develop a plane with hiding holes. They had to consider balance, strength, cooperation, negotiation, and decoration with function. These are all valuable skills as we move into our new topic next week about flight.
